Sketchstory No. 31 - 'Geeta' by Aastha Tiwari

I am Geeta. I love to make jokes about myself. I was 7 when I got tagged in school as the most hyper/ funny/ talkative person in my class. People used to love having me around as they enjoyed my chirpy, funny nature. They also liked my big fat humorous mouth which later got me into enough trouble. Some also made fun of me but never mind that.

I have heard that some of the greatest comics in history have struggled with anxieties, depression and reclusiveness and I believed humour could be a temporary way of turning the darkness outwards instead of in. Same.

While it’s true that being funny can boost your popularity, striving to be popular is a dumb goal. Striving to be anything you’re not, in order to get something you want, is a dumb goal.

But there’s nothing wrong with trying to be — and have — more fun. And there’s everything right in trying to make life lighter and sweeter for the people in your world.

But people have opinions, And advice. Many told me I was in the wrong profession and that I should have gone into politics or should have become a stand up comedienne or even a radio jockey. Haha! All these streams are so different, even from each other, right? I am, however, an artist.

Besides being funny, I love dressing up. Old vintage junk jewellery with dark and deep mystic stones and big huge silver bangles which were given to me on my 30th birthday by my adorable grandma… oh! she was so full of life! There was something unique about her (magical/ mysterious) as she raised me and loved me like she gave birth to me. Because of her beliefs and who she was, I am who I am today.

I enjoy long talks, conversations on dogs, planets and plants. I also like talking to the birds and sipping tea in my lovely garden with lots of beautiful flowers around me.

Going on …The most interesting story was when I met my husband. I was very talkative, so I usually used to fall for quiet men and would always end up making the first move which was considered as funny and shocking. I still don’t get why! Anyway, so I blasted him off and gave him a piece of my mind when I saw him plucking a flower in my neighbourhood and to my surprise I later realised that it was his garden — a flower that he was plucking just to get my attention…aaaagh!

Till date he calls me a funny hyper girl. :)
