Sketchstory No. 17 : 'A letter to Kamla, 2020' by Vanya Verma

Back when Kamla was 19, and about to get married, she wrote her future self a letter. She was not sure what changes her new life might bring, then.

After a particularly long working day, she was exhausted and contemplating.

She opened it today, finally.

"Dear Kamla,

It's about finding the small joys, it's about enjoying the present, it's about living a life of contentment. There are days when you are dead tired, but when you look through the day closely, you realise it was full of little things which brought joy to you and to many others.

The pleasant chirping of the birds which woke you up,
The endless meetings online, and fun ideas that found their way,
The butterfly shaped roti you fed your little one,
The water your plants were rooting for,
That evening cup of chai and your much needed me time,
And that long gossip session with your best friend over the phone, or
Having your husband by your side.

Happiness is in the small things, to live in hope of something and the zest of creating new things."
